Paige Hood Tyner, widow of Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Master Deputy Keith M. Tyner, IV, will offer a presentation about her experiences as a law enforcement suicide survivor.  It is her hope that her words will open minds and hearts to hear and to consider the potentially life-changing trauma experienced by many first responders and how those experiences require continual intervention.

She will offer an open and honest account of the tragic loss of her husband who died by suicide on January 24, 2021, and the challenges she and her family have faced in the aftermath of their traumatic loss.  Mrs. Tyner will draw your attention to the need for courageous and mindful leadership.  Her presentation will expand on how the lack of effective and appropriate leadership and support can cause further harm to a devastated and grieving family. She will provide her insight and personal perspectives into the critical and vast needs for cultural change, ongoing and dynamic training, consistent interventions, and effective support for all first responders as well as for their families.

Mrs. Tyner is a Charleston native, a mother of four, a registered nurse, and a former special education teacher.
