Eric Stephenson is the Executive Director of the First Responders Peer Support Network located in Carteret County, N.C. He retired as a Captain of the Atlantic Beach, North Carolina Fire Department after dedicating twenty-nine years to the fire service. Throughout his career, he repeatedly witnessed tragic incidents, endured natural disasters, and other major loss of life events. Eric struggled through most of his career with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideations due to repeated exposures while on the job. He found hope through his best friend and sought treatment. Due to his own career struggles, he has become an advocate for other first responders through his non-profit organization. Eric has presented at events and conferences in states along the East Coast on a variety of topics regarding first responder behavior health.
Eric’s presentation takes an in depth look at how to make sure you are set up for success in your recovery journey. Key points addressed are finding mental health professionals that fit your needs and with whom you are comfortable. Emphasis will be placed on finding appropriate treatment centers, support groups, and continuous aftercare that will be important parts of your plan. He will also discuss the importance of, and how to build a personal support system to help you along the way. He will also visit the vital role of being honest with yourself and how to find and keep hope and faith alive throughout the recovery process.
