Today, we joined the friends and family of Ms. Delora Guthke for her 100th birthday celebration. Mrs. Guthke is the widow of Charleston Fire Chief Wilmot Guthke. Chief Guthke served the Charleston Fire Department for nearly fifty years, twenty-five of those as the Chief of the Department. Mrs. Guthke served beside her husband as the Matriarch of the CFD for all those years as she supported him and many of us during our careers. She is the epitome of a gracious Southern lady and a pillar of the community. We have many fond memories of her as she is such a wonderful friend. We observed her birthday today with a parade of fire trucks and chief cars to show our appreciation. It was particular exciting to watch our younger members participate in such a historical event for the CFD.
