Emily Kirkland obtained her associate’s degree in criminal justice at Trident Technical College. During her time at Trident, she was on the dean’s list every semester as she maintained a 4.0 GPA. Afterwards, she attended The Citadel where she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice degree in December 2023.Emily has also completed training at the Medical University of South Carolina where she became a Peer Supporter with MUSC CARES. This is a Peer Support initiative established for all care team members to receive emotional support and advice from trained peers, aiming to alleviate the immediate distress caused by stressful or traumatic workplace events or non-workplace events. The program assists in expediting recovery through stabilization, facilitation, restoration, and necessary referrals. She has also completed training with NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness. She currently leads multiple support groups for people with diverse backgrounds.
Emily is currently working on her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Winthrop University and her plans include a Doctorate in Psychology. She is also working on becoming a Certified Peer Support Specialist through the state of South Carolina.
She currently works full-time for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She is an Administrative Coordinator for ten Clinics, and she works with four managers with the day-to-day functions. She lives with her husband, Kevin, in Cross, South Carolina. Kevin Kirkland is an emergency medical technician.
