We spent some important time today with members of the new Firefighter 1 Class that just started in Berkeley County. Excited to see firefighters from Alvin, Awendaw, Pimlico, Pine Ridge, and Pineville-Russellville Fire Departments. It was a special day as I shared the front of the room with Ashley Taylor, the Training Coordinator for Berkeley County 911 and our Lowcountry 911 Telecommunicator Support Team Berkeley County Coordinator. Ashley provided information to the recruits on the 911 Center and, with the able assistance of her young son, Rhett, provided mocked up phone calls giving each student an opportunity to practice call taking skills. Rhett actually played a youngster calling 911 to report an emergency. Can’t wait to he gets old enough to join the fire department. He is a natural candidate.
