We regret to inform you that Colleton County Firefighter Explorer Matthew Thornton was fatally injured in a vehicle accident on the morning of December 29th in Colleton County. Matthew was very active in the department and was nearing the completion of the Firefighter II Training program. He was 16 years old and had been a Firefighter Explorer for 2-1/2 years. We will post funeral arrangements when they become available. Please remember his family in your prayers. Matthew’s Dad, Eric, is a long-time member of the Lowcountry Fire Service. Our condolences go out to Eric and all of Matthew’s family and friends. Rest in Peace, young man, your dedication and commitment to the Fire Service will not be forgotten.
