This past Thursday, we hosted the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Program “Taking Care of Our Own”. We were pleased to have twenty-seven people registered from many Lowcountry departments. The program prepares us for the potential of a line-of-duty death in our own department or, in others where we may be of assistance. Subjects covered included discussing a department preplan, notification procedures, benefits available to the families, making sure the proper documentation is in place for beneficiaries, behavioral health concerns, and resources.
Many thanks to all who attended, our presenters from the NFFF, the North Charleston Fire Department and the on-duty crew at Station 2 who made us feel at home. Also, we thank Nicole Brown of Paul Davis Restoration and Sabine Gottge of Chick Fil A on Dorchester Road for their generosity in providing food for us!
We are blessed in our State to have a Local Assistance State Team trained in the same program to serve our state’s firefighters through the SC State Firefighters Association. Our training was provided to strengthen our ability to participate in that support.
