There are many unsung heroes on our Team that give of their time to advance the mission of taking care of our emergency services personnel and their families. Our Community Outreach program is designed to provide support to those we serve and to promote the image of the Fire Service in the community. We are fortunate to be able to have three old fire trucks that served their active duty time in the streets and now provide an important part to bringing smiles to those we help.

Back in 2007, when we started our Team as the Charleston Firefighter Support Team, we knew that gaining the trust of those we served would be a challenge. In order to expect them to trust us during some of the worst times in their lives we decided to create a side of our Team where we could spend time with them in hopes of bringing smiles. So, we continue to provide these three old fire trucks, owned by different individuals on our Team, to be used in birthday parties, weddings, family reunions, parades, fundraisers, Touch-a-Truck events, and any other place we can spread some joy.

The biggest challenge is keeping them running and having drivers to operate them when a request comes in. Well, with standard transmissions, (one has an automatic) it is difficult to find someone who can drive them. We are fortunate to be blessed with a group of guys who spent their careers driving old standard shift trucks. All but one of these guys are retired but have stepped up to offer their services.

Thanks to all of them for their dedication to the mission. We simply couldn’t do it without you.
