The Center for Firefighter Behavioral Health at the Medical University of South Carolina announced last week that they have received word that FEMA approved their proposal to develop resources for firefighter peers and family members. After a critical incident, 20% of firefighters look to peers for support; 75% turn to spouses and family members. It is important that firefighter peers and family members have access to helpful tools and resources when providing support. This project, which we will lead in partnership with the Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team, Inc. and other local fire service partners, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, and Richard Gist and his colleagues, will allow us to take a big step in that direction.

Our Team is honored to be a part of this important initiative that will provide this support through internet access for all firefighters across our nation.
