On Monday night, Lee Hopkins, David Reindollar, and I traveled to the South Lynches Fire Department in Lake City to share information about our team to include our “Step Up & Step Out” Suicide Prevention initiative and our “Operation Zzz” weighted blanket project. Additionally, we enjoyed the evening reminiscing about old times as I taught my first training program as a Fire Academy instructor totheir department 45 years ago. Many of those in attendance, including officers from the Williamsburg County Fire Department, were second and even third generation firefighters to the guys I taught way back when.
South Lynches has continued to set an example for fire departments all over our state by raising the bar high. Many folks don’t know that they pioneered mobile water supply, blitz attack lines, dry hydrants, and many other innovative operations a long time ago and have continued through the generations to lead the way. Last night, they opened their new training building complete with multiple classrooms, a beautiful kitchen, administrative offices, and a fully equipped computer lab for online training.
Our hats are off to them for another job well done and thanks for the invitation to spend time with them last night.
Gerald
