We entered another era today in the history of “Big John” and our Team. We moved it to its’ new home at Summerville Fire Department’s Station 4 on Sheep Island Road after almost six years of being housed at the C & B Fire Department’s Benchmark Station on Highway 78 near the fairgrounds. C & B is growing with plans to renovate the Benchmark Station and the space was needed for that growth. We are forever grateful to our C & B friends and family for their generosity in storing and caring for it over the last six years.
This old Mack began its’ service with us in the Spring of 2012 after being donated to our Team by the Old Fort Fire Department where it served for many years. It was restored by our Team and other volunteers to carry on the legacy of Battalion Chief John Winn of the Charleston in his hope that it would bring awareness of firefighter cancer and other debilitating diseases in the Fire Service world.
Special thanks to Chief Richard Waring and the men and women of the Summerville Fire Department for providing the new home and for their continued support of our Team.
