On Saturday, we participated in the 13th Annual Daniel Glenn O’Rourke Memorial Benefit to help children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
This was our 8th year of involvement for our Team to support our buddy, Clay Dixon, and the other children that benefit from this event. This event begins as a poker run for our motorcycle family of friends, sixty-six of them this year, who meet us at Charleston Fire Station 17 on Bohicket Road on John’s Island. From there, there escort us out to Wadmalaw Island to the home of Kevin and Kelly Carroll for an amazing party and fireworks show.
We became a part of this great event when, eight years ago, Clay was asked which motorcycle he wanted to ride on in the parade. He said he wanted to ride on a fire truck so here we are, eight years later. Kevin, Kelly and their girls have always been great supporters of our firefighters and have hosted our Steel Pony Car & Motorcycle Show for many years. They never accept, or expect, any accolades but we were happy to support them as well.
And, this became one of Chief John Winn’s favorite events so our Team does it each year in his memory as our beloved teammate. Thanks to all who came out, thanks to all the sponsors for making it happen, thanks to Kevin and Kelly, and thanks to Clay and the other kids for showing us courage, faith, and hope. We are already looking forward to next year!
