On Saturday, during the funeral service for Florence County Paramedic Phonesia Machado-Fore, members of the New Mexico State Police came to the services in South Carolina to present the Fore family with a New Mexico state flag and a framed photograph of their own Trooper Justin Hare. Trooper Hare was killed after he stopped on the interstate in New Mexico to assist a disabled motorist who was driving Phonesia’s vehicle. The perpetrator had allegedly murdered her in Dillon County before fleeing the state in her car. He was later captured and is now in custody.
The tragedies of the last week remind us that sometimes we just need to be there for one another. Regardless of what agency or what emergency services organization we are a part of, we should all feel honored to serve with others who share our love for public service.
Please keep the Fore and the Hare families in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days. Also keep good thoughts for our brothers and sisters of Florence County EMS and of the New Mexico State Police in the coming days.
