On January 31st, we were pleased to be a part of the recognition of a special person in our lives. Kim Seleen, a Charleston County paramedic and a member of our Lowcountry EMS Support Team, was presented with a plaque thanking her for showing commitment to and caring for another first responder. Kim responded to a post on Facebook where NCFD firefighter Andrea Mazurak was needing help due to the death of one of her beloved dogs. Andrea is also a member of our Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team making us proud that these two came together. Kim accompanied Andrea to the Vet hospital office to pick up her dog’s body, went with her to make arrangements to have the animal cremated, provided a fire department blanket to wrap him in for cremation and stayed with her to support her. Kim’s recognition that our animals are family for us and deserved the respect he received will not be forgotten.
Both Kim and Andrea are important people on our Team and we have witnessed their love and compassion for others many times. It was heartwarming to see them coming together during such a sad time.
