We are fortunate on our Team to be involved in some pretty special “events” and last night presented another of those opportunities. While attending the Summerville Fire Department/Lowe’s Fire Safety Show with our “Road Runner” fire engine, this photo was taken by the mother of one of these boys and shared with us. First, as a part of our community outreach program of our Team, the “Road Runner” serves as our “Autism Awareness truck”. The concept for it came from young Dawson Reindollar whose Dad is NCFD Captain John David Reindollar. Dawson drew the plan for the truck and envisioned it as supporting others with autism, not only in our fire and EMS families, but also in our community.

This photo says so much and we ask that you look at it carefully. First, the wonder in the eyes of this young boys is amazing. In addition to being excited about climbing on the truck, they seemed mesmerized by the sight, reflected in the window, of the ladder truck and our American flag flying against the bright blue sky.

This past week has been difficult for all of us with the untimely passing of Emily Avin and Jason Hoke from our EMS family, the loss of Skip Hannon, one of our State’s most influential Fire Service leaders, and the tragedy of the mass shootings in Las Vegas. Yet, for just a few minutes these two young lads cause us to pause and be thankful for the blessings in our lives. The simple pleasures we sometimes forget in the sad times. Many thanks to the Mom who captured this photo and shared it with us.
