Last weekend, while at Palmetto State Armory for our fundraiser, I saw my friend Chuck with his daughter Rebecca. Rewind nearly eight years ago when Rebecca was very ill. Her Dad and I were at St. Andrews Fire Department where he was attending a fire department class. He received a phone call that he needed to come to MUSC where Rebecca was being hospitalized. Since he had ridden a fire truck from his department to the training, he had no transportation to get to MUSC. He and I jumped in my car and traveled to MUSC. Several days later, I visited Rebecca and her Mom at the hospital and took her a stuffed animal. Rebecca was 4 years old at the time! She recovered from her hospital visit and has grown to be a beautiful young lady. I haven’t seen her in eight years but I was blessed to see her again this past week.

Sometimes I think we don’t acknowledge the blessings in our lives and, more importantly, let our children know that they are a part of those blessings. Thank you Rebecca, for making my holiday a special one. I look forward to seeing you again and I hope it won’t be eight years this time!
