The South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association’s F.A.S.T. Team will be presenting their Peer Training Class hosted by the North Charleston Fire Department and the Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team on March 28th and 31st, 2016. The class will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude at 5:00 p.m. each day. This class will prepare participants to work within their own organizations and/or to become members of the Statewide Firefighter Assistance and Support Team (F.A.S.T.).
This program includes training on Behavioral Health Awareness, Stress First Aid, Curbside Manner to Help the Citizens with Serve, Listening Skills, Suicide Awareness, Understanding Grief, Alcohol and Substance Addiction, “Loving and Living with a Firefighter”, the Role of an Employee Assistance Program, “Finding Balance” in our professional and personal lives, the Role of Fire Service Chaplains, Organizing and Operating a Peer Team, the Role of Behavioral Health Clinicians and will also include a host of other important topics, presented in a roundtable discussion format, that will encourage participation by all in the learning process. In addition to being important to those who want to join our Team, this program promises to be a great tool for others aspiring to be fire department officers at the company or the command level or for those serving in a peer capacity in their organizations.
