Congratulations to our friend and mentor Bobby Herbert on his retirement as Chief of the Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad. He has always been a leader in this community and his advice and assistance have sustained us over the years. As a rookie firefighter at St. Andrews back in the 60’s, I remember responding to auto accidents and he would arrive in one of his ambulances and we would extricate a trapped driver using a cutting torch rolled up in the back of his ambulance. Over the years, under his leadership, the CCVRS has grown to be a well-trained and well-equipped organization, second to none. Many young men and women, including myself, have grown up under his influence and for that, I will be forever grateful. Special congratulations to Ms. Betty, who has been by his side the entire time as we know her support has been instrumental to his success. May both of you enjoy retirement with our best wishes.
Gerald
