This past weekend, we responded to assist a local fire department at a tragic accident involving a small child. Without question, it was a difficult response for all that were on scene to include fire, EMS, law enforcement, the 911 dispatchers and our Team members.
In the mission of taking care of our emergency services personnel, we believe it is important to understand the unique culture of the different professions we call our first responder family. It is equally important that, in our training others to be peer team members, we provide them with not only the tools, but the knowledge to accomplish their mission. As we approach our next peer training class in Goose Creek on October 21st and 22nd, we will be adding a segment to the class to prepare all our participants to understand the cultural differences in those we consider that family.
To that end, we will have a panel of selected individuals representing firefighters, EMS, 911 telecommunicators, and law enforcement who will address the culture of each of their professions and how we as peer team members can provide support for each other regardless of what uniform we wear. We believe this approach can be instrumental in improving our abilities to take care of each other.
We still have a few spots left in our class if you are interested in joining us. We promise it will be time well spent.
