Saturday began early for a trip to Florence County to join the Pamplico Rescue Squad for their Yard Sale Fundraiser. The Squad has existed since the 1950s as a volunteer rescue squad and does fundraisers throughout the year to operate a well-equipped and well-trained organization providing rescue and ambulance service in their community in the Pee Dee Region of the State.
Today, they provided our Team a place to provide information to their folks and to the community on our “Step Up & Step Out” program dedicated to the memory of Paramedic Emily Avin, who lived in the Pamplico community.
What began as a chilly and windy day ended just the same without dampening the spirit of these good folks. In addition to the normal fare for a yard sale to include furniture, household goods, yard equipment, appliances and such, the day was full of fresh-baked goods along with 50 dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. It became quite a challenge to get enough people to stop by to move the doughnuts so “we took them to the street” by standing our front selling them to passing motorists. What a great way to meet people in the community by offering them fresh doughnuts. Yes, we did keep a couple of dozen for ourselves but, otherwise, sold them all!
While I left there “sugared up and tuckered out”, I felt blessed to make friends with these wonderful people who treated me as one of their own. Without question these folks deserve all the support the community can give them. I also thank them for helping me leave today with a renewed sense of pride and spirit that we all can make a difference.
