The sight and sounds of 2 fire engines pulling up to your house would normally mean disaster. But tonight, for one injured Sheriff’s Deputy, it was the total opposite. On the morning of November 3rd, Berkeley County Sheriff’s Deputy Cameron Babson was in a serious accident when another vehicle struck the driver’s side of his patrol car. His injuries included a broken pelvis, ankle, and wrist. While being out of work, unable to work his part time job, and being the family’s sole provider, Christmas was a tough time for the family. That’s when the Coastal Carolina Fraternal Order of Leatherheads Society (F.O.O.L.S.) along with help from the Lowcountry Jeep Club and the Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team stepped up with the mission of making sure that this family’s Christmas was great. With the help of Deputy Babson’s sister and law, the plan was simple: to load up the gifts and show up in a manner that would catch them off guard. Hanahan Fire Department Engine 3 and the Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team’s Engine 8 did exactly that. Babson’s son Joshua was bombarded with wrapped presents faster than he could open them. After graciously thanking the ones responsible, he was taken outside where he got his own special tour of the two engines, complete with his own toy plastic fire hat. When you can bring joy to the face of a child on Christmas, your day is complete.
